Those Intel chips are the Core i7-10700K for desktops and Core i9-10980HK for mobile. It’s something AMD Ryzen processors have done over the years, benchmark impressively against Intel rival CPUs. Other caveats worth considering is the fact this is just a single test against Intel chips from a number of tests. Furthermore, the comparison is directly against Intel 10th gen CPUs, which is not the upcoming 11th Gen Rocket Lake series. Those chips will roll out against the new Ryzen, so that would be a fairer comparison. Lastly, we must also remember that benchmarks are often only a pointer to performance in the real world. Still, getting an excellent benchmark is a good place to start, so the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is a promising chip.

AMD’s latest CPU comes with eight cores and 16 threads. The 5900HX will likely arrive with 16MB of L3 cache and a base clock speed of 3.3 GHz (boosted to 4.71 GHz). In terms of the benchmark and comparison with Intel, the Ryzen 9 5900 HX got a multi-core score of 9,015 and single core of 1,534. That’s notably better than the 8,444 multi and 1,374 single core scores from Intel’s Core i9-10980HK. This mobile processor also beats some high-end Intel desktop CPUs. For example, the Core i7-10700K gets a single core score of 1,350 and a multi-core score of 8,982.
