Still, there are some titles we can infer from release patterns, rumors, and announcements from last year. You can bet that Gears of War 5 will feature, alongisde a new Forza Motorsport and more Halo Infinite. All these series are pretty well established by now but still likely to excite long-time fans. More interesting is what Microsoft will show outside of its mainline titles. The tech giant recently went on a gaming spending spree, acquiring Forza developer Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, Compulsion Games, InXile, and Undead Labs.
Outer Worlds, Wasteland 3, and Big Surprises
Obsidian we know is working on a New Vegas-like RPG called Outer Worlds, and it’s likely that will make an appearance. InXile is working on Wasteland 3, and Undead Labs State of Decay 3. The others are something of a mystery, and it’s unclear if they’re far enough into development to show anything concrete. Microsoft’s new studio, The Initiative, is also an unknown, and an extremely exciting one. The studio basically has the giants unlimited funding, which it will throw at top level talent from Red Dead Redemption, God of War, and Tomb Raider. Its head is revealing little, but promising something groundbreaking. Meanwhile, rumors about Fable IV continue to circulate. Last year, we saw hints that Forza’s Playground Games is developing the next title in the franchise. The studio has confirmed that it’s working on an open-world, non-racing RPG, and Fable 4 coincidentally made an appearance on Mixer earlier in the week. There have also been rumors that Microsoft is looking to buy Age of Empires IV creator Relic Entertainment. If those are correct, we could see the game make an appearance as a first party showing. Of course, it’s also very likely we’ll see something Sea of Thieves creator Rare. It could just be DLC, but we may also see more of its new Battletoads game. Even Mojang could make an appearance, with the Pokemon GO-like Minecraft Earth revealed recently.
