What is Windows Sandbox?
Windows Sandbox lets you execute apps or programs in a different environment. When you close Sandbox, all applications and data are erased, and Windows 11 is unaffected. It is a great feature that allows you to execute programs in Windows 11 without concern of damaging your machine. That is, apps installed in Windows Sandbox mode remain “sandboxed” and operate independently of the host PC.

Everything needed for this capability is included in Windows 11. There is no requirement to obtain a VHD. Every time you turn on Windows Sandbox, it is as fresh as a new installation of Windows. Nothing on the device is permanent, and everything is discarded when the user exits the program. For kernel isolation, it uses hardware-based virtualization. It uses the Microsoft hypervisor to run a separate kernel that separates Windows Sandbox from the host. It takes advantage of the integrated kernel scheduler, innovative memory management, and virtual GPU.
This functionality comes in handy when downloading an executable file or software from a dangerous source and installing it in Windows Sandbox, and it will not harm your computer. Though the Sandbox itself only takes up 100MB, Microsoft also recommends you have 1GB of hardware space to ensure your main OS will run smoothly in the background.
